Drunk on the ladder truck? More self-inflicted bad press for SFFD

Monday, July 22, 2013

Another black eye for the San Francisco Fire Department. And we’re not talking about the fire truck (or trucks?) that ran over and killed the Asiana Airlines crash survivor on the SFO tarmac. This time it’s a veteran firefighter accused of being drunk on the job after driving a ladder truck into a motorcycle at Fifth and Howard and then walking away after being told he’d have to submit to a drug and alcohol test. His lawyer calls a move to terminate him “premature.”

This one also casts a spotlight on DA George Gascon’s office. Although police arrested the firefighter on suspicion of felony drunk driving and hit-and-run, prosecutors, so far, have opted not to file charges. Chronicle
