KQED revamps its signature public affairs program; Thuy Vu to host

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Thuy Vu will host the new program. (KQED/Rick Camargo)KQED has decided what to do with its Friday night public affairs program “This Week in Northern California” now that longtime host Belva Davis has retired. It will be scrapped in favor of a reformatted show to be known as “KQED Newsroom,” starting Oct. 18. The new program will be part roundtable discussion, part interviews and part field reporting anchored by veteran Bay Area news reporter/anchor Thuy Vu, with Scott Shafer, host of KQED public radio’s “The California Report,” as senior correspondent.

Vu started her journalism career as a radio reporter at KQED before spending years as a reporter and/or anchor at ABC 7, KPIX 5, and KTVU 2. Her most recent gig: as host of KPIX’s “Eye on the Bay,” until it folded last year. Here’s the KQED announcement, plus a Chronicle story.
