Plea deal for bicyclist who killed pedestrian in Castro—no jail time

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

District Attorney George Gascon (pictured) says bicyclist Chris Bucchere’s agreeing to plead guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter for sailing through a crowded intersection in the Castro and killing 71-year-old pedestrian Sutchi Hui last year sends the proper message. That’s likely to be debated. Under a plea deal, Bucchere, 37, will be sentenced to 1,000 hours of community service, serve no time behind bars, and in six months he can have the felony conviction reduced to a misdemeanor.
