Will 49ers’ off-season ‘character’ issues tone down Jim Harbaugh?

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

While the Raiders have been off-loading bad actors, the 49ers, whose coach, Jim Harbaugh, is famous for gushing about his team’s character, is the local coach with the off-season player headaches this summer. First, there’s linebacker Ahmad Brooks’ beer-bottle fracas with teammate Lamar Divens (no charges filed; thanks Santa Clara County DA’s office), and then the acquisition and quick exit (failed physical) of twice-arrested, once-suspended cornerback Eric Wright. Result: As he met yesterday with reporters at rookie camp, Harbaugh appears, for now, to have “lowered 10 levels on the swagger meter,” the Merc’s Tim Kawakami says.
