Cargo backlog mess at Port of Oakland amid lots of finger pointing

Friday, August 9, 2013

Latest mess at the Port of Oakland: a huge cargo bottleneck that’s keeping truckers idling for hours and frustrated customers unable to get products to market. Lots of finger-pointing between longshoremen (who’ve gone out on several one-day work stoppages lately) and major terminal operator SSA Terminals, in whose large complex the problem lies. SSA took over two terminals next to one it already operated last month as part of a settlement of its lawsuit against the port . . . for the port’s allegedly giving a sweetheart deal to a competitor. You get the drift. Oakland Tribune
