Four months into its new home at Pier 15 and the acclaimed science museum’s visitor numbers are a huge disappointment, with daily attendance barely half of what it had expected. Result: massive layoffs, an 18 percent personnel cut across the board. That’s 80 of its 435 paid positions. The sad news has to make you wonder if the museum has priced itself for failure with those $25 tickets for out-of-towners and $20 for San Francisco residents. Chronicle
