Imploding from the top? AOL fires Patch leader in front of 1,000 co-workers

AOL’s bumbling management of its Patch hyperlocal news operation under CEO Tim Armstrong has taken another amateurish turn—with Armstrong firing Patch creative director Abel Lenz in front of 1,000 co-workers during a conference call. Armstrong’s antics Friday were so clumsy—and boorish—that it apparently didn’t sink in immediately that he wasn’t kidding. Business insider has a story and audio. Oh, and Armstrong is postponing for a few more days bringing down the ax on 300—or is it 400, who knows?—of Patch’s 900 sites.
