For anyone who’s been vacationing on Mars, the Bay Bridge shutdown is at 8 p.m., with the expectation that it’ll “reopen” before rush hour (as in 5 a.m. or better) next Tuesday, when cars will for the first time move across the new eastern span. For the record, it’s the fourth time since 2006 that the bridge has been closed over Labor Day, and the previous closures have gone relatively smoothly. Extra ferry service and round-the-clock BART service should make this shutdown no different. Chronicle
