Latest political patronage outrage at SFO, where connections fly high

Monday, August 26, 2013

Latest tale from the Chicago-style political patronage cesspool known as San Francisco International Airport. Longtime airport commissioner and labor poobah Larry Mazzola’s 49-year-old nephew, Mark Kennedy, is up for a permanent $86,000 post despite having an airport work history that’s more akin to a rap sheet. It includes: having resigned from an earlier SFO job for having porn on his computer and attacking his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend in an airport terminal (he pleaded no contest to assault in that one). Plus a reprimand last year for allegedly using airport phones to make dozens of harassing phone calls to his ex.

But that isn’t preventing SFO director John Martin from seeking to turn the Mazzola kin’s temporary status as a “senior management assistant” into a permanent gig that would potentially make it more difficult to get rid of him. Oh, and Kennedy finished 70th out of 76 people taking an eligibility test for the job, the Chronicle says.
