Nancy Pelosi’s spokesman clarifies her quote about not wishing to be Speaker

Friday, August 30, 2013

Did Nancy Pelosi misspeak when she said she doesn’t wish to be House Speaker again? Apparently so. Her spokesman, Drew Hammill, is already walking back her comments published today in the National Journal in which she’s quoted as saying, “No, that’s not my thing. I did that.” Hammill says: “She was simply saying she doesn’t ‘wish’ for things.”

Pelosi, who is 73, was Speaker from 2007 until 2009 after Republicans captured the House majority. She’s widely believed to covet the position again—a prospect, of course, that hinges on Democrats wresting control of the House. AP
