Saint Mary’s finds way to keep Australia tap flowing after NCAA sanctions

Friday, August 9, 2013

Got to hand it to Saint Mary’s head basketball coach Randy Bennett, who’s made a living off recruiting Australians while building a winning program. As part of NCAA sanctions against the school for recruiting violations, Bennett is personally prohibited from off-campus recruiting this year and so—voila!—meet Saint Mary’s new assistant basketball coach Marty Clarke from Australia. Press release here.

Clarke has helped develop some of his country’s top players, including former Saint Mary’s stars Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova (pictured above with Bennett), as well as the Warriors’ Andrew Bogut.
