Tens of thousands of Silicon Valley tech jobs are going begging, and yet tens of thousands of skilled, veteran IT workers are unemployed or underemployed. What gives? Fascinating piece by Andrew S. Ross in the Chronicle about the bias toward hiring folks under 30 in the Valley. It includes this golden quote from now 28-year-old Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg back in 2007, you know, when he was still young:
"I want to stress the importance of being young and technical. Young people are just smarter. Why are most chess masters under 30? I don't know. Young people just have simpler lives. We may not own a car. We may not have family. Simplicity in life allows you to focus on what's important."
Note to Mr. Hoodie: your time is about up.
