Lotfi Mansouri, longtime San Francisco Opera director was 84

Lotfi Mansouri at the War Memorial Opera House. The former San Francisco Opera director, who introduced the opera world to the synchronous translations during performances popularly known as supertitles, died Friday of complications of pancreatic cancer at his home in San Francisco. He was 84. The Iranian-born opera director ran San Francisco Opera from 1988 to 2001, and before that headed the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto for 12 years.
