That cool air mass that swept over the inland Bay Area came at the best possible time for firefighters battling the blaze on the eastern slopes of Mount Diablo. It was 45 percent contained early this morning and fire officials were hopeful of making sizable headway today. So far, an estimated 3,273 acres have burned, but no homes destroyed.
